Excursion to lake Cerknica

On Monday, April 4, 2022, the sixth-graders went on an excursion to Lake Cerknica. When we arrived to Dolenja vas, we visited the museum of Cerknica Lake called Jezerski hram. They first told us a lot of interesting things about Cerknica Lake and then we watched a multimedia presentation of the lake. After staging the fishing, we also looked at objects related to the lake. Then they showed us an amazing vivid model showing the filling and emptying of the lake.
After visiting the museum, we went for a walk along the lake and filled out our worksheets. Finally, we solved a research project on local plants at a beautiful sightseeing point.

Our technical day

On Tuesday, 25th September, the pupils of the seventh grade had a technical day.

First, we visited the Central wastewater cleaning plant Nova Gorica in Vrtojba. Our guide took us around the plant and showed us the procedure of cleaning the wastewater coming from a sewerage network and cesspits of the users in Nova Gorica and other municipalities. In the plant there runs mechanical and biological cleaning of the wastewater.

Later, we visited a local sun power plant near highway in Vrtojba. We found out that it provides eletricity for most of the street lights in the Šempeter-Vrtojba community.

Finally, we went to Miren. There we tested the electric bikes and we saw an electric car used for supplying a day center for the elderly people.

It was an interesting day.

Primož Trubar

In Slovenia the 31st  October is Primož Trubar’s day. On 24 st October our class visited his birthplace – Rašica. We travelled by bus. It was a long journey but it was worth.

When we arrived, the guide was waiting for us. He showed us some books that Trubar wrote and told us about his life and work. His father was a miller, so they weren’t poor. Trubar went to school to different towns, a year in Reka and two years in Salzburg. We learned some interesting facts about him. He was the first to give our nation its name – Slovenians and a language. The guide told us about the important people in Trubar’s life. One of them was the bishop Peter Bonomo who alloowed Trubar to read the books of contempoarary writers and get informed and educated that way. Primož Trubar wrote the first printed books in Slovenia – Abecednik and Katekizem. First he used gotica but hten he prefered latinica.

I think Primož Trubar was a very important man and a great writer.

Castle Turjak

Castle Turjak is 500 years old.

First there was a very small fesung, but it was too small, so they built a bigger one.

In the 13th century it was much smaller. Now the castle is 60% renewed.

If somebody attacked the castle, they had a fountain and a pantry. Thay also had a kind of a basement where they had a food.

There’s also a chapel (Dalmatin’s chapel). It’s the oldest castle chapel. It’s got the name “Dalmatin’s”, because Jurij Dalmatin was transleting the Bible there. There’s also an armory next to the chapel.

In the castle there was and there is still a prison, that was once 20 meters deep, but now it’s just 5 meters.
