GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD

Book Description:

Good Girl, Bad Blood is the second book in Holly Jackson’s thrilling series, continuing the story of Pippa Fitz-Amobi, the protagonist from A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. This time, Pip has no intention of investigating any more cases. Instead, she focuses on her podcast, where she shares the events of her previous investigation. However, when a young man, Jamie Reynolds, goes missing in her town, Pip realizes she can’t just stand by.

As the police fail to take the case seriously, Pip decides to take matters into her own hands and start investigating. Her search for answers leads her to shocking revelations and connections, unraveling secrets that run deep within the community. The story is packed with twists, suspense, and moral dilemmas as Pip grapples with how far she’s willing to go for the truth and the consequences her actions might have on those around her.

My Opinion:

I really enjoyed this book because it’s so gripping that it’s almost impossible to put down. Pip is such an interesting character—I love how brave she is and how she never gives up, even when things get tough. Holly Jackson does an amazing job of writing a story that keeps you hooked because you never know what’s coming next.

My favorite part was the ending, when everything finally comes together and Pip uncovers the truth, even though it’s nothing like anyone expected. I was really surprised by how dark and complex the mystery turned out to be. That twist is what stuck with me the most and made the story so memorable.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries, intricate plots, and characters who aren’t afraid to go all the way to uncover the truth.

Does music rule your world?

Music is my world and I would find it difficult to live without it. I listen to it all the time. When I’m sad, I listen to sad music because it matches my mood. Maybe it sounds silly, but it’s the way I am. I have some special memories connected to songs like Party in the USA by Mylie Cyrus because my cousin and I used to dance to it when we were little. My favourite song lyrics are deep lyrics with a meaning, usually about love, friendship or the world in general. One song I like is a song called 7 years by Lukas Graham. I do not usually buy clothes that match or are in any case connected to my music taste. However, if an artist I like releases a clothing piece and I find it cute, I’ll buy it. My friends like all kinds of music from pop to rap and even country. Some friends like the same music as me, some don’t. Nevertheless, that’s fine because we are different and that is what makes us special.

MY NEIGHBOUR

Danica, my neighbour, who is like my grandmother, is 89 years old. She was born in the village of Tolmin. For her age she’s really good looking. She’s short and thin. She has got short curly brown hair, blue eyes and she wears glasses.

She’s got three brothers Ljubko, Dušan and Milan. She’s also got three sisters Olga, Draga and Cvetka. Danica is the youngest of them all. She lost one brother in the last battle of the Second World War. Today only Cvetka and Danica are still alive. She never had children or a husband.

She lost her parents when she was three years old. After that she lived with her neighbours and later in a boarding school. She became a teacher  in elementary school. She liked her job, but she had to work where they sent her and she couldn’t work where she wanted.

After retirement she attended activities for pensioners, such as singing in the choir, learning Italian, philosophy and many more… These activities were later canceled because of the coronavirus. Now she mostly reads books, newspapers, solves crosswords, watches TV and talks with many friends.

As a person she’s very curious because she has always been interested in almost everything, so she knows many people and many different things. She’s cheerful because she likes to laugh a lot. She’s clever, polite and she likes to be in company.

I chose her because I respect her, we have a good relationship and she really likes to talk about her life.

A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER

A good girl’s guide to murder is a mystery novel by Holly Jackson. It’s the first book in the series of three novels about the same characters.

The book tells us a story about a 17 year-old Pippa Fitz Amobi who is determined to solve the cold murder of Andie Bell that happened 5 years ago in her town Little Kilton. The police and detectives proclaimed that Andie’s boyfriend Sal Singh is the one who brutally murdered his girlfriend and then procided to commit suicide.

She leads an investigation masked as a school project. Throughout the whole book Pippa/Pip finds out a lot of different evidence that show the innocence of Sal Singh and she’s sure the real killer is still among residents of Little Kilton. She befriends Sal’s younger brother Ravi and he really helps her with this mysterious case that needs to end once and for all. She needs and is determined to find out the truth. For Andie, Sal, Ravi and now herself too.

Personal opinion:

I enjoyed this book very much. You cannot put it down no matter what and the words of the author just suck you in. The story is full of plot twists and turns. I read the whole book in a day and I need to say that it is one of the most exciting murder-mystery books I have read in a while.

It’s great for anyone who likes to read and is interested in mystery books.

I really, really recommend it!

Pygmalion

On Monday, 4th March, 2024, a group of students from 8th and 9th year watched a play in the National Theatre in Nova Gorica (SNC Nova Gorica) performed by an English drama group ADGE from Munich. The title of the play was Pygmalion and it was written by the English dramatist George Bernard Shaw.

Short summary and trailer are available on the website https://www.adg-europe.com/pygmalion-by-bernard-shaw/

Here are the opinions of the students:

They liked the play, because the actors were good and convincing. It was interesting to hear spoken English. The story was funny, with lots of comical elements, but at the same time it pointed out the problem of women in that period (the beginning of 20th century). The costumes were beautiful and they matched each role.

Students complimented the performance itself, especially the passages between scenes and the exchange of the roles (one actor performed in several roles).

They expressed the wish to see more plays, because they are educational, they bring forward special emotions and everybody can learn something new from them.

A Christmas Carol

On 23rd November, we went to a cultural center in Italy to see a performance of Christmas Carol performed by an American group of actors.

A Christmas Carol is a short story written by Charles Dickens in 1843.

It tells the story of the miserly Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited on Christmas Eve by his deceased colleague Jacob Marley who sends three ghosts to him in the hope of a change in Ebenezer’s attitude towards the world. The ghosts represent his Christmas past, present and future, opening his eyes and helping him understand why being stingy and mean to others does nothing good.

The ghost of Christmas past shows him the Christmas in his childhood when he was still a good litlle boy, The ghost of Christmas present shows him the celebration of Christmas at one of his employees house. The employee has a litlle boy called Tiny Tim that is seriously ill but his father can’t help him becuase of the small payment he gets at Ebenzer’s office. The ghost of Christmas future shows him a funeral of a man who the ghost doesn’t let Ebenzer to see. The ghost shows him another funeral too. And that’s the funeral of Tiny Tim who died of his illness. Ebenzer begs the ghost to show him the name of the man at the funeral and the ghost reveals a tombstown with Ebenzer’s name written on it. He realizes that the people weren’t even sad about his death. They were quite happy becuase they had more time to put their finances in order. Scrooge realizes that the only way to change the horrible future that awaits him is if he changes himself and his attitude.

After all of the three ghosts visit him, Mr. Ebenzer changes into a better and kinder person.

I was amazed by the actors and their excelent performance. I really like the massage that the play brings to us all.

THE AMAZING MAURICE AND HIS EDUCATED RODENTS

The book is about the Amazing Maurice, a group of talking rats, and the human boy Keith travelling in a mail coach to a small town called Bad Blintz.

The Amazing Maurice is a talking cat that leads his Educated rodents (a group of talking rats) as they leave town being a “plague”. Their gang parter named Keith pretends to be a rat chaser and has to “lure them all away” from the town in return of money. After Keith makes the money, they all share it and either waste it or save it. The rats had gained intelligence from eating leftovers of a spell behind Unseen University (a wizard school). Maurice gained it after eating one of the rats, before he was capable of realizing that they were no longer proper rats.

The group is not completely happy. The leader of the rats, Hamnpork, despises Maurice while Dangerous Beans (a near-blind rat who guides them) wants to start a rat civilization and both he and Peaches (the group’s scribe) find them unethical. The rats seek an ideal world where humans and rats can live together. They agree to do one last job in the town of Bad Blintz.
