Does music rule your world?

Music is my world and I would find it difficult to live without it. I listen to it all the time. When I’m sad, I listen to sad music because it matches my mood. Maybe it sounds silly, but it’s the way I am. I have some special memories connected to songs like Party in the USA by Mylie Cyrus because my cousin and I used to dance to it when we were little. My favourite song lyrics are deep lyrics with a meaning, usually about love, friendship or the world in general. One song I like is a song called 7 years by Lukas Graham. I do not usually buy clothes that match or are in any case connected to my music taste. However, if an artist I like releases a clothing piece and I find it cute, I’ll buy it. My friends like all kinds of music from pop to rap and even country. Some friends like the same music as me, some don’t. Nevertheless, that’s fine because we are different and that is what makes us special.

MY NEIGHBOUR

Danica, my neighbour, who is like my grandmother, is 89 years old. She was born in the village of Tolmin. For her age she’s really good looking. She’s short and thin. She has got short curly brown hair, blue eyes and she wears glasses.

She’s got three brothers Ljubko, Dušan and Milan. She’s also got three sisters Olga, Draga and Cvetka. Danica is the youngest of them all. She lost one brother in the last battle of the Second World War. Today only Cvetka and Danica are still alive. She never had children or a husband.

She lost her parents when she was three years old. After that she lived with her neighbours and later in a boarding school. She became a teacher  in elementary school. She liked her job, but she had to work where they sent her and she couldn’t work where she wanted.

After retirement she attended activities for pensioners, such as singing in the choir, learning Italian, philosophy and many more… These activities were later canceled because of the coronavirus. Now she mostly reads books, newspapers, solves crosswords, watches TV and talks with many friends.

As a person she’s very curious because she has always been interested in almost everything, so she knows many people and many different things. She’s cheerful because she likes to laugh a lot. She’s clever, polite and she likes to be in company.

I chose her because I respect her, we have a good relationship and she really likes to talk about her life.

An e-mail

Hi, Maja!

I’m in Brazil now. I’m here with my mom and my cousin. My brother is ill, so he is staying with my dad at home. We are in a really big shopping center and we have already got lost twice, but it’s still fun. We are shopping for some trousers and maybe a hat because it’s really cold here. Right now my cousin is trying on some trousers, so me and my mom are waiting outside the cabin. It’s taking long, but I’m having a great time. Anyway, we need to buy someting for the football game this evening. How cool is that? We are actually going to the stadium and we will see Neymar and other players in real life not only on TV. I’ve heard that they are giving autographs, so I can take one for you too, but I don’t promise anything. That remindes me – I will send you all photos of the game. I’m so excited because it was a surprise for me and my cousin. By the way, we actually didn’t see a lot of Brazil. We just visited some parks, shopping centres, cafés and museums. We are staying in a hotel in the middle of Brasilia. It’s nice, but it has a weird name that I always forget. Tomorow after breakfast we are going to the Nacional park Brazil and after that we are going to play mini golf. Wish you were here too. Anyway, enogh about me. How are things with you? I’ve heard that you are in Rome with your family. Sorry, someone is calling me. I have to go, but keep me post and write soon.

Bye for now.

WHY GAMING ISN’T BAD FOR YOU

Studies have shown that gaming is actually good for you in minor doses. For example, people that play strategy games are more creative and can think of interesting solutions to a problem and people who play first person shooter games (FPS) have better reactions and think quickly. If you play open world games, you have most likely developed a sense of exploration. Obviously, playing video games too much can be a problem. People think that sitting too close to the TV, monitor or mobile phone will damage your eyes, but it actually won’t. What will damage your eyes is staring at the screen for too long in dark places, for example in your bed at night. It is also good to point out that most games are in English, so people can learn quite a lot of vocabulary from them.

I also just want to say something to people who always say pause the game: not all games can be paused because if it is an online game and you are actively playing with other people, pausing it would also pause the game for other players. That would be very annoying because there would always be that one kid in every game who would pause for no reason at all.

Finally, find out more by watching a video about the advantages and disadvantages of gaming:

A YEAR IN MY LIFE

My favourite months are:

  • April, because it is the month of my birthday,
  • March, because spring starts,
  • December, because it’s Christmas and New Year – we are at home and we count down 3,2,1 and wait for the New Year,
  • June, because it’s the end of school year,
  • and July and August, because we’ve got summer holidays.

These are the important days in my family:

My birthday is on 10th April. We have fun and my friends and relatives sing Happy birthday to me.

My brother’s birthday is on 28th June.

My mum’s birthday is on 4th June.

My dad’s birthday is on 20th September.

I love holidays!

For winter holidays I go skiing and sledging in February.

For spring holidays we light the bonfire on 1th May.

For summer holidays I stay at my grandparents’ house and jump on the trampoline and I go to the seaside in July and August.

For autumn holidays we go to the graveyard in November.

For New Year’s holidays we bake biscuits and cakes in December.

My holidays

This year I went abroad to Croatia. We went to Croatia in July. There I swam and played mini golf a lot. I went for a walk every day and I snorkelled. We brought our dog Ben as well. I had good fun there.

I also visited my grandparents in Solkan. In August we went to the mountains in Italy. We travelled to Lago di Misurina. We visited the Dolomites. It was a long 4 hours drive.

When the weather was bad or too hot, I played computer games with my friends, too. During my holidays I cycled with my parents. We cycled around Nova Gorica, but we also cycled from Kromberk to Ravnica and Kekec. Both climbs were really hard.

The holidays were too short for me. J
